Tribute to sociologist Harold Wolpe’s life and monumental work

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) general secretary Silumko Nondwangu will tomorrow (Wednesday) give a public lecture on whether trade unions can lead the struggle for socialism.

Nondwangu, in paying tribute to former ANC and SACP exiled leader and key figure Harold Wolpe, who advocated struggles for more open democratic political discourse within ANC; he will speak about the possibility of unions’ independence being compromised.

He will be addressing the Harold Wolpe memorial conference in Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s Vista Campus, Port Elizabeth at 18H00.

The conference themed National Democratic Revolution and Socialism- Can Cosatu lead the struggle for socialism in South Africa, is organized by the Eastern Cape Socio Economic Consultative Council, in conjunction with University of Fort Hare and Rhodes University.
