Numsa go on strike to demand recognition from the PE car- racing manufacturer

About 600 members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) have downed tools at Hi Tech Automotive in Port Elizabeth to demand union recognition.

The Hi Tech car racing manufacturer in Greenbshes, outside Port Elizabeth, the major exporter of racing cars, is notorious for its union bashing tactics and disregard for worker’s rights.

Despite that the majority of the workers in the plant had joined Numsa, the management has refused to recognize Numsa as representative union and subsequently rejected negotiations with the union.

Workers are currently engaged in protest demonstrations in the front gates of the car plant near St Albans prison, outside Port Elizabeth.
