Congress credentials – the final lap!Just as we thought, since March 2008 there has been more jostling for 1st and 2nd positions in the regional membership stakes! Wits Central West has taken the lead and put Eastern Cape into second place.

Hlanganani is still in third place with just 5000 members separating 1st and 3rd place. Wits Central West has been frantically capturing since March and it is likely that other regions will try to catch them in the last few weeks before the race ends! Regions have been given until the end of August to capture all new members onto the MEMS computer system.

In the middle of September, the Congress credentials committee (made up of the National Finance Committee and the Secretariat) will report to the NEC on the final membership count so that locals can elect their congress delegates. Watch this space!

Decisions from the NEC on the 8th National Congress* Nominations for the new National Office Bearers (NOBs)The NEC decided that nominations for the new National Office Bearers will close one month before Congress.

However the NEC decided that if regions want to nominate new names at the congress itself, that this will be allowed subject to administrative issues.

This was to avoid a situation where congress could spend hours debating whether to allow new nominations or not. * Election monitorsThe NEC agreed to appoint The Elexions Agency, the election monitoring company which has conducted Numsa's elections in the past.
