National Bargaining Conference: Shame on us

Metalworkers are still clinging to their traditions. Out of almost 150 delegates only 6 are women. Shame on us metalworkers, we are going from bad to worse! What happened to the principle of including women in our delegations to all meetings?

A debate we should re-open! Regional and national leadership should develop ways and means to ensure it is implemented. Why do we have a will to implement other issues but not this one.

The President said this morning "have our priorities changed, I don't think so. But women should stand up and demand their issues."

The focus of gender is now only on health and safety issues – we must redirect our energy into building women cadreship. Comrades I think all of us should go back to our regions and take full responsibility for the Mafikeng resolutions. We cannot renew and still continue to operate the way we did 15 years ago.
