From August 15 to 18, 437 delegates from all Cosatu affiliates will gather at Cosatu’s 3 rd Central Committee (CC). Numsa’s 44 delegates will be amongst them.
The meeting will make new policy and update policy on three important areas: politics, the organisation and industrial policy. The CC does not have the power to change policy made at a National Congress.
Delegates will discuss in plenary the political report of the federation.
Having helped the ANC secure victory in the last elections, the challenge now is how Cosatu can “use its organisational and political muscle to further tilt the balance of forces for a much more radical transformation.”
Under organisational issues, delegates will break into five commissions. They will debate the servicing of members, worker control and internal democracy, recruitment, organisational development as well as unity of the labour movement in terms of mergers of Cosatu affiliates and steps towards one federation.
The third and fourth days will discuss industrial policy.
