Refilwe Rosemary Lukhele, Madibeng’s local administrator, holds June 1, childcare day, close to her heart. For the past few years she has driven plans, together with other Numsa staff and members, to celebrate the day in her local. She reports on this year’s outing.
This year we raised R16 000 in donations from locally organised companies around Madibeng. Dubigeon Body and Coach, one of our organised companies, donated two buses.
Close to 150 children ranging in age from one years old to 15 and 130 adults joined our trip to Bela Bela.
Regional staff members, Maria Modungoa regional gender co-ordinator, Khosi Matlala, Thembi Hlophe and of course our regional chairperson Phil Bokaba , joined us with their children.
This year’s event was not a female issue. I realised that our male comrades know what parental care is all about.
For those locals who were not successful in raising funds for this year’s event please do not despair, everything is possible when you work as a team or involve your local office bearers, shop stewards and full-time shop stewards so that their employers could really consider us when we start engaging them on the Childcare Day issue.
