Millions of rands are sitting with Numsa’s lawyers after unfair dismissal cases were won for workers but Numsa and its lawyers have lost contact with the workers.

Case management to be tightened
By the end of April, Numsa should have a new case management system computerized. This will help “every regional legal unit to give members accurate and up to date progress on their cases,” says Anthea Kelly, Numsa legal administrator Western Cape .
Such a system will save members travel costs. Members will be able to go to “internet Cafés or phone the office to find out how far their case is,” says Dudu Rabothathu, Hlanganani’s regional legal administrator.
Sibongile Nkosi, Ekurhuleni legal administrator, believes that the system will give Numsa a chance to “rebuild the image of the union” which had been tarnished by some officials who had “messed up matters”.
