Congratulations to all those Numsa runners that took part in the Comrades marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on June 16.
For Gideon Mosue from Bridgestone Brits it was his 6 th time. And although at 7 hrs 45 minutes it was his best time, his joy was overshadowed by the passing away of his mother in the weeks before the testing run.
Other Bridgestone teammates who completed the race were Stephen Levuyo, Eastern Cape in a wonderful time of 6hrs 35 minutes and Mathews Moilusi, Brits, in 10 hrs 55 minutes.
Since putting in Mosue’s story about his love for running in Numsa News earlier this year, he says he has received calls from across the country wanting to know what Numsa can do to encourage them and others to participate in these races.
Mosue’s response was to tell them to contact their local and regional Numsa offices.
Mosue’s plea is for Numsa to provide something to runners which can show others that they are Numsa members. “During races we see people from Solidarity participating with their logos. Whatever activities people are involved in, they should be proud to belong to Numsa,” says Mosue.
Numsa’s national treasurer, Philemon Shiburi, is a keen sportsman. Before he became a busy trade unionist, he was a multi-talented soccer player and cricket umpire and showed his talents as goalkeeper during Numsa’s recent national training conference. He is keen to hear how we can make Numsa more visible in sports activities.
