25 April 2012, Posted in Press Releases

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) will be launching its 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children Abuse, tomorrow Friday 25 November 2011, Randburg Inn and Hotel, Cnr Republic Road and Main Avenue, Randburg, Gauteng province.

The Launch will be addressed by COSATU President Cde S’DUMO DLAMINI, NUMSA Deputy General Secretary Cde KARL CLOETE, CCMA Executive Director Ms NERINE KAHN and Department of Labour Deputy Director General Cde SAM MOROTOBA.

NUMSA will be launching this campaign fully aware of its ideological orientation as a class trade union formation that the fight against women and children abuse should not be de-linked from the broader class struggle of defeating Capitalism, since Capitalism as a system is barbaric and its breeds rottenness in our society by placing women at the receiving end of its cruelty.

Therefore our launch will also be about making a call for the total transformation of our economy to be in the hands of the people as a whole in order to build an egalitarian society free from race, class and gender oppression and an end to exploitation of one person by another.

The Launch will be attended by 250 union organisers from across the country, including worker leaders drawn from the Gender structures of the union.

The revolutionary Methodist Church Reverend PAUL VERRYN will deliver a prayer in highlighting the ugly face of women and children abuse in the workplace and in our communities as perpetuated by Capitalism and dominance of patriarchal tendencies in our society at large.

The Launch will be presided over by signing of a pledge committing trade union, government and faith-based leaders in the fight against women and children abuse in all spheres of our society.

This pledge will serve as a guide of honour and commitment by all members of NUMSA across the length and breadth of our country.

A moment of silent and candle-lighting will be observed in honour of all those mothers, daughters and jewels of the working class who endure or died as a result of domestic based violence and kangaroo justice.
