Building the Alliance
Work towards ensuring that the Alliance becomes the NDR’s political centre

Re-table within the Alliance, Cosatu’s historic programme of transformation
Call for a mechanism to manage inter-Alliance debate and differences
Building the ANC
Call on workers to swell the ranks of the ANC
Develop a joint programme with the ANC on campaigns, education and other matters
Build relations with Leagues of the ANC
Building the SACP
Synchronise Cosatu’s 2015 plan and the SACP’s medium strategy
Provide financial and material support to the SACP
Support SACP’s Red October and other campaigns
Ensure that the Chris Hani Institute is up and running
Ensure that young workers join the Young Communist League
Building the Mass Democratic Movement
Work primarily with Mass Democratic Movement (MDM) organisations and other traditional allies such as Cosas, Sasco, Sanco and SACC.
Work with emerging social movements under strict criteria and as long as these organisations are not divisive and do not have as their agenda the liquidation and undermining of the Alliance

Building the federation
Increase our membership every year by 10% so that Cosatu’s membership will be 2,6 million by 2006
Support shopstewards by providing them with education and service
Build effective organisation, ideological cohesion and education capacity
Ensure financial and personnel management in each affiliate
Promote women’s leadership and implement a quota system as a way of ensuring visible representivity
Provide quality benefits to workers and their families

Target youth, women, migrant workers, casual workers and part-time workers
Target the more than 2-million unorganised farm and domestic workers
Socio-economic programme
Engage employers and government at sector level through sector summits
Revive the Living Wage Campaign
Influence socio-economic policies through Nedlac, parliament and other bilateral fora.
International programme
Strengthen African trade union movement
Build solidarity with workers throughout the world
Fight for global labour standards
Step up solidarity with Cuban people, ZCTU and SFTU
Struggle for a just world order through ensuring that organisations such as the World Bank, IMF and WTO are transformed.
