A parent is a mother and a father who give birth to a child. They come together to make sure that the child is growing well. They teach, guide and show love to their children.
At the same time parents are workers, and they are also union members. As a worker and a comrade, there’s not enough time to show how much we love them and how important they are to us because during the week we are at work, we wake up early in the morning and come back late in the evening.
On Saturdays, it’s union activities, Sundays it’s church for those that call themselves Christians. But our children need us a lot. Then comes December holidays – schools are closed, factories and other companies are also closed. And that’s when shop steward at Hardware Industries and father of two, Yusef Mokolobale, will get a chance to show them how much he loves them.
“I love them so much and I’m glad because the company is going to close on December 13. I will be with my children. I will buy Christmas clothes and gifts for them and have enough time to sit with them and discuss different issues that they need to know. And I will take them to places like Gold Reef City where they can entertain themselves,” says Yusef with a smile.
Shop steward at Motor Tech and mother of two Maria Motsima plans a special treat for her children. “Due to financial pressures and union activities during the year and their busy school schedules, I couldn’t take them for an outing. But in December, I am going to take my children to Durban for five days. I have been saving R100 a month, I’ve now booked a hotel and a compartment with Metrorail.”
“And we won’t be going alone – we will be eight adults and six children!”
“Comrades, do yourselves a favour,” says Motsima. “You only live once – enjoy your life with your children while you still have an opportunity to do that.
Children are the mirrors of ourselves, let’s love them!
