What are renewable energy sources?

Solar energy: sunlight used to generate energy
Wind energy: uses naturally occurring wind
Hydropower: uses movement of water
Wave power: tidal power and ocean currents to drive turbines
Geothermal: energy derived from hot core of the earth
Biomass: energy from organic matter such as trees, plant and other waste
Bio-fuels: liquid fuels produced from bio-mass
The government has set a target that by 2012, 10 000 Giga Watts hour (GWh) of final energy consumption in South Africa must come from renewables.
