In the early morning breeze, I woke up with thoughts of wonder and success, but today would be a day of many mornings yet to come,I knew what I wanted in life, but frustration causes my anger, and outrage to become a victim of violence and captivity.
Still young at 17;I don’t really understand the situation, why people come and make my school a haven of bullets and terror,”Please teacher tell me what is this all about,””no my boy you are too young to understand!”
Smoke causes me to choke from the burning tyres and hot ash lying in my street where I play everyday, but still I don’t understand, why all this, is the person trying to take over what I have built on, or is it because of what I have heard,
Yes, Yes, Yes! It is right EDUCATION, LANGUAGE AND RACE!Thoughts in my mind of picking up the stone to make my point to them,O, my God a friend next to me just fell down,”HECTOR PLEASE STAND UP, STAND UP MY FRIEND! HECTOR, HECTOR, HECTOR”, I shouted with tears in my eyes.
No response, blood on my hands and blood oozing from his mouth, I realised, there is more to it, “My friend has died teacher, can you help?” “No my boy you are too young to understand.” More and more I grew angry out of outrage and act as a soldier in war.
Today I look back and thank Hector for laying that first stone that changed my mornings, Forever.
Tribute to Hector and the other student commarades for what they did on June 16 1976. Today we can celebrate their fall and lift our heads in freedom of choice.
