Decisions of the Numsa Special NEC September 18-19* Doves/NIC reportIn the light of the Times report (reported on Numsa News No 4 2008) alleging a legal dispute between the Numsa Investment Company and the Public Investment Commission, the special NEC mandated the NIC Board to conduct an external independent audit of the Numsa Investment Company and to present a report in the next meeting.
Subsequent to the special NEC, the NIC Board met and appointed auditors Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) to conduct the investigation.
The mandate was extended to cover all the allegations contained in the media report including investigating individuals who happened to be the board members of NIC.
The NEC resolved to:* recall the current Board and appoint an interim Board while the investigation is going on* the interim Board members should take the current investigation to its conclusion and report to the next constitutional structure before the congress. If this is not possible the matter should be taken to the first meeting after the National Congress.
Management of the NIC should be re-instituted and the Trust should be revived.* Thabang Tsiboli, Phil Bokaba, Mpumzi Maqungu, Christine Olivier were elected to serve as the interim Board of Directors
* Charges against the Numsa general secretary by CosatuThe National Office Bearers reported the process undertaken by the federation in regard to the discipline of Numsa's general secretary.
It was reported that the NOBs had taken measures to resolve the matter with the federation.An idea to submit an apology was explored and the majority of NOBs agreed. The NEC resolved to submit an apology.
* Commission of enquiry into Northern Cape The commissioners appointed to look at the Northern Cape problem (reported on in Numsa News No 4 2008) reported to the NEC as follows:* the disputed congress held earlier this year was constitutional * the region must look into developing a succession plan* the position of regional education officer and regional legal officer must be separated* there must be a report back to the region (to take place on 27-28 September)* the NOBs to continue working the region until it is stable.

Congress credentials Ekurhuleni leads the pack by just one delegate!In the final lap towards the 8th National Congress, Ekurhuleni pulled out all the stops and managed to show proof of 42 264 members, just 293 more members than its neighbour Wits Central West.The number of delegates each region can bring to congress looks like this:
