The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) will be marching with other unions to the office of the Premier in KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg, to demand that they must stop giving security tenders to security companies that are not complying with the National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector (NBCPSS). Some security companies are defrauding workers by deducting money for medical insurance and pension fund, but not paying it over to the service provider. This means that when workers have to claim, there are not enough funds or no funds at all.
This is an issue which has been problematic for many years. Part of the problem is that government departments are complicit because they keep giving tenders to security companies that do not comply. NUMSA will participate in a march to the office of the Premiers office in KwaZulu-Natal to demand that they act, and hand over a memorandum of demands. The media are invited.
